Chapter 16

Job is in so much emotional pain.  I think he is really longing for someone to understand.
Verses 2 and 3 made me giggle a little.  The NRSV translation says, "windy words."  What do your translations say?  I'm glad Job is able to express his dislike of the way his friends speak to him.

I am cheering for Job.  I hope something more positive will happen soon.....

  1. The Message says, "What a bunch of miserable comforters! Is there no end you your windbag speeches?" NIV is "Will your long-winded speeches never end? What ails you that you keep on arguing?" The notes in my bible say that "Helpful advice is usually brief and encouraging, not lengthy and judgmental." I think Job is doing a pretty good job of standing up for himself to his friends and God. He proclaims his inocentce, bu he is still suffering. I still think God wants to hear from us whatever our feelings at the time. One of the lessons for this Sunday is Romans 5:1-11. Reading this in the light of Job is interesting. It gives us a much different picture of God. "we have peace with God", "we have obtained access to this grace", Especially verses 3-5, "but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance...character...hope...and hope does not disappoint us, bucaurse God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirt".
