Chapters 31 (Wednesday), 32, 33, and 34 (Saturday)!

Hey friends! Sorry I got behind. We're almost there!  It's almost Holy Week.

Here are some thoughts on 31-34...

YIPPEE!!! Elihu is here! He seems like a good friend, huh?
What are your thoughts on our new friend Elihu so far?

  1. Chapter 31, Job is really laying it on God. I don't understand all of his references, but his message is clear. I am a good man. What is God thinking by punishing me?

Chapter 32, Yes Elihu seems to be a fresh voice of reason. He is young but has something to say and says it in a respectful manner sort of. He tells the other three that they may be old, but aren't nessesarily wise.

Chapter 33, Elihu speaks to Job. He is the only friend to address him by name. I was reading a commentary on Job today. The commentator said that Elihu in verse 9 says that Job said he was with out sin. But the commentator said that Job said he was blameless. A difference. Elihu's view point is that sometimes God leaves us "in the Pit" to keep us from sinning. Verse 24 says, "I have found for him a ransom." This seems to be an ilusion to Christ. I really like verses 29 and 30. God does whatever it takes to bring us home to him. We may not like the journey, but he never gives up on us.

  2. Chapter 34, I liked verses 12-15. God is a good and just God. If he left us we would return to dust. Verse 21 "he (God) sees all their steps". God watches over us at all times. Elihu's words to Job at the end are somewhat harsh and yet true. Job does not understand what God's plan is. Where do we go from here Elihu?
